Life-size sheet metal figures at Yad Mordechai, a kibbutz just north of Gaza, founded in 1933 by a Marxist youth group that had bought the land from its owners in the Arab village of Brayr. It was the site of a key battle in Israel's 1948 defense against the five Arab nations that attacked when it declared statehood following the U.N.'s partition of the Palestinian Mandate. Part of a re-creation of the clash, the figures represent the oncoming Egyptian army.
